The Southern California coastal city of Carlsbad is part of San Diego County, roughly 90 miles south of Los Angeles and just over 30 miles from downtown San Diego. A resort city, Carlsbad is divided into four quadrants: Northwest; Northeast; Southwest; and Southeast. The McClellan-Palomar Airport is located in the city's Northeast quadrant.

Manufacturing is the largest sector employer in the city, followed by wholesale trade, professional (including scientific and technical) services and food services/eating establishments. Carlsbad is home to many businesses in the manufacturing sector, notably golf sports equipment manufacturers TaylorMade-Adidas, Callaway, and Titleist; as well as biotechnology companies, including Life Technologies, the city's largest manufacturing sector employer.
The city is the headquarters for a diverse array of businesses, including: Jenny Craig, Upper Deck, PC Power and Cooling, semiconductor company MaxLinear Inc., Sierra Wireless, the Gemological Institute of America and the planned airline, California Pacific Airlines, to be headquartered at the McClellan -Palomar Airport.
Carlsbad Government
In 2008, Carlsbad voted to become a charter city; it is in the 38th Senate District of California and the 74th Assembly District. The Carlsbad city government is comprised of an elected mayor along with four city council members, elected at large. Carlsbad city government has no term limits.
